Luttenberg “the Pearl of Salland”

The village of Luttenberg, also called “the Pearl of Salland”, has approximately 2,255 inhabitants. It encompasses a total area of 2,296 hectares. The village center includes a few cozy terraces, supermarket, snack bar, church, sheepfold, doctor’s office and outdoor swimming pool. The Lourdes Grotto has been a principal attraction since 1915 at a crossroads in the center of Luttenberg. It is the only public Mary shrine in Salland. The Lourdes Grotto was built in 1914-1915. The statue of Mary featured in the cave wall comes from Cuypers’ studio.

Often time seems to have stood still here. Walking alongside farmlands and farmyards with fruit trees, you will feel how true rural life must have once played out here.

Platteland

Adjacent to the village of Luttenberg is the isolated Luttenberg nature reserve, part of the Sallandse Heuvelrug National Park. The origin of the Luttenberg goes back a long way. The area was created in the Ice Age and is part of a moraine. The Luttenberg offers a variety with surprising views, various elevations (the highest point is 31 meters!), coniferous and deciduous forest, some heathland, coppice groves and fields. An oasis of peace in the middle of the farmland.
Taking care of nature is what residents and guests do here together. Look for the secret of Luttenberg, discover the medieval cart track from the time of Napoleon and imagine a way back in time.

Walking, cycling, equestrian and driving routes

On foot, by bike or with your horse, there are countless beautiful routes in the area to explore. Make use of the Pieterpad, the junction routes, horseback riding and driving routes (including 43, 46 and 48). Hunt for wild animals in the forest and be enchanted by the vast moors and tall hills in “National Park Sallandse Heuvelrug & Twents Reggedal”. Discover the heights with fantastic views, such as the Lemelerberg, Archemerberg, Holterberg, Eelerberg, Sprengenberg, Luttenberg and the Koningsbelt. The latter is the highest at 75 meters above sea level. A climb provides unique and striking views over extensive forests and undulating moors.

Culture

In the vicinity you will find authentic villages, monumental farms, stately country houses, a meandering river “the Regge” and Hanseatic cities (Deventer and Zwolle) with their rich history. These are all definitely worth a visit. Several restaurants in and around Luttenberg guarantee an evening of culinary enjoyment.

Salland offers something for everyone. Experience Salland the way you want it!
